Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat is involved in working with a freelance copywriter? As a freelance copywriter, I like to begin all of my relationships with an initial consultation. Here we discuss your copywriting needs, goals, and timeframes. Afterwards, I will draw up a proposal outlining what we discussed and include an estimate for freelance copywriting fees. Once you give the go ahead, I will email you a Letter of Agreement which confirms our business arrangement. Once you've signed this document and returned it to me, the project can begin. Before writing I make sure I understand each of the following: During this process I will read and study any background material you provide. Such materials might include brochures, flyers, marketing e-mails, reports, web content, spec sheets, case studies, market research, and company information. I also do my own research on your industry and competitors to make sure I am up to speed on the current marketing approaches being used. Then I write, and write, and write some more until the gem shines. Copywriting is a collaborative process. Once the first draft is complete, we go over it ensuring all your objectives are being met effectively. ------------------------------------------------- What about revisions? Once the first draft is complete, we work together making sure all the right buttons are being pushed. My business has but one goal and that’s to make your business a success. If you are not delighted with the copy, it will be promptly rewritten to your specific direction. At absolutely no extra cost to you. ------------------------------------------------- Do you offer website or graphic design? No. Instead of being a jack of all trades I prefer to be a master of one. I can, however, recommend a qualified professional. As well, because design is an integral part of the final product, I may want to consult with your designer or send suggestions along with the copy. ------------------------------------------------- Do you charge for meetings? Meetings are generally not needed as teleconferencing seems to work just fine. However, if essential, a specific number of meetings are worked into the job estimate; more than that will be billed at an hourly rate. ------------------------------------------------- Do you require a contract? Yes. I require a signed Letter of Agreement confirming our business arrangement and copywriting fees. Once we discuss the work and project scope, I will email, or send/fax you a letter outlining the job specifications. You simply need to sign it and send it back keeping a copy of the agreement for your own records ------------------------------------------------- Do you require a deposit? Yes. Most projects require a 50% deposit, with the balance invoiced upon completion and due within 14 days. Larger projects may be broken down into more payments. ------------------------------------------------- How do you charge? By the hour or by the project? Typically I determine my copywriting fees on a per-project basis. This ensures you get what you want, when you want it, at the agreed upon price. Occasionally, projects are difficult to estimate, and an hourly freelance copywriting fee is most appropriate. However, flat copywriting fees seem to work best for myself and for my clients. ------------------------------------------------- What does your fee include? The fee includes consultation, concepting, research, a specified number of meetings, telephone interviews, and of course, the writing. The fee does not include out-of-pocket expenses, out-of-area-travel, courier or expedited delivery fees. ------------------------------------------------- How can you write about my business if you don't have direct experience in my industry? Research is the key ingredient to any successful copywriting project. As a copywriter and journalist trained to research a topic and effectively articulate the key points: I can quickly get up to speed on your business and convey your message in a way that will generate results. ------------------------------------------------- Who will you work for? I do so enjoy a challenge and there hasn’t been a business yet that I haven’t been able to spin some copy magic for. I have countless years experience working with a wide variety of clients in just as many industries. ------------------------------------------------- What if I change my mind about the direction of a project midway? Once the project is in progress, and if you wish to cancel for any reason, payment will be pro-rated only for the work that has been performed up to that point. If the project changes significantly in direction or scale, a new freelance copywriting proposal and cost estimate will be provided. ------------------------------------------------- How do you deliver my copy to me? Typically, copy is delivered via an email (Microsoft Word) attachment. ------------------------------------------------- Do I own all rights to the work? Once copywriting fees for the project has been made in full, you own the rights to all work created for you. This means you can use and re-use it any way you see fit. I may however ask for the right to use your project in hard copy and electronic form in my portfolio. If you have confidentiality concerns, portfolio rights are up for discussion. ------------------------------------------------- What's the best way to reach you? E-mail is the quickest way to contact me. I can be reached at info <at> raisersedge.ca ------------------------------------------------- In search of a talented, professional freelance copywriter?
